On July 7 2014, FortuneMagazine released its Global 500list for2014 based on the revenue of companies in 2013. CITIC Group ranked the160^thplace with a revenue of RMB 375.1 billion (USD 61billion), up 12 spots (172^nd in 2013, 194^thin 2012). In terms of net profit, CITIC Group ranked 95th, also up 12 spots.

The top three on this year's list are Wal-Mart Stores, Royal Dutch Shell and Sinopec Group, among which War-Mart toppled Shell to regain the Global 500 top spot and Sinopec made its first entry into the top three, becoming the highest-ranking Chinese company.

Second only to the US, China has 100 corporations on the list (including those from Hong Kong and Taiwan), 5 more than last year. Together they posted combined revenue of USD 6.103trillion and profit of USD 311billion. Seven of these Chinese firms including China Development Bank and Pacific Construction Group made the list for the first time.
